You will start your round with a par-4 (407 yards from the back and 325 from the front) that offers a generous landing area for your drive. You'll be hitting straight away to an area just on the edge of a gentle valley with a creek on the right. Then you'll need from a 7- to a 5-iron to make your approach to a kidney-shaped green, according to Green.

"Our third hole is extremely beautiful," said Green, "and could be considered one of our signature holes." This par-4 (409 yards from the back and 312 from the front) requires a long carry of about 175 yards over wetlands. From the tips it creates one of the most difficult tee shots you'll have at Providence. There are also fairway bunkers left and more wet stuff. "It's easy to pull left into the wetlands," said Green, "because everything on this hole slopes left. You need to hit it to the right side." Be careful as you aim for the green though, because a huge bunker curls around the right side of the green.

On the 4th, you'll find a drivable par-4 (311 yards from the back, 270 from the front). A creek runs across the fairway and down the left side. There is heavy bunkering to the right of the green as well as two deep bunkers on the left side. "Either you can hit an iron off the tee and a wedge into the green," said Green. "Or you can challenge yourself and go for it, but with all the bunkers and the creek on this hole, it's possible to make an eagle or a seven."

The par-5 5th hole plays at 515 yards from the back and 429 yards from the forward tees, but can be reached in two shots. You'll be taking your second shot on a hill hitting across wetlands. You'll also find fairway bunkers off to the right about 70 yards apart. "The green has a drastic slope from left to right," said Green.

The par-5 8th (525 yards from the back and 408 from the front) is dominated by a lake that starts about 190 yards from the tee on the left side and runs to about 80 yards from the green. There are also trees and out of bounds on the right. Green calls this "the ultimate risk-reward hole" because you can hit toward the lake off the tee and then have a shot at going for the green in two. But you're going to have almost a total water carry to get there. The fairway also slopes from right to left. So if you hit near the lake your ball can run toward the water. Staying right may be safer but it also requires accuracy because there is a big creek on the right side of the green. Many players consider this to be our signature hole.

As you finish the front, the 9th is a 215-yard par-3 (215 yards from the back and 140 from the front) that demands a forced carry over wetlands to a long narrow green with creek to the right. At this point, you can well believe that this is a course with water on 16 out of 18 holes. The back nine offers water challenges as well, to tempt and defy you.

On the par-3 11th, for example, you're hitting 186 yards over water to a double-tiered green. Then it's on to the par-5 12th (553 yards from the back and 415 from the front) that doglegs right off the tee, then moves slightly left as it rolls toward the green. Your drive is over a lake in front of the tee boxes, but the landing area is generous and easy to reach. Next you have to lay up to about 110 yards away from the green where two lone oak trees guard the approach. There's also a stretch of wetlands to carry to get to the green.

The last two holes make up a grand finale on our course. On the 17th, a downhill par-3 that measures 177 yards from the back and 130 yards from the front, with a lake to the right that laps along the edge of the green. "If you miss the putting surface to the right, you're in the lake," Green said. "The back of the green is wider than the front, and the left side is shaped like a bowl so your ball will trickle down to the right."

The par-5 18th (517 yards from the back and 393 from the front) is a great risk-reward hole, Green said. "You're hitting from an elevated tee across a creek to the top of a hill with a huge bunker off to the left. You want to stay to the right; but if you go too far right, you can drop down towards the first hole. Your approach shot is then into the green that is heavily guarded by three bunkers and a creek cut close to the front edge.
